FAQ
What is Loteria?
A traditional Mexican game of chance similar to “Bingo” featuring cards with cultural images that are marked as a caller announces them.
What is Festival de la Loteria?
A family-friendly event that supports community beautification and clean-up efforts by the non-profit organization Keep Kingsville Beautiful.
When and Where is the Festival?
Festival de la Lotería occurs in April each year outside on Kleberg Street in downtown Kingsville from 10:00-5:00 p.m. All event activities take place outside. Be prepared for the sun as the area is not shaded. Personal umbrellas, chairs with covers and pop-up tents are allowed.
Are There Food and Beverage Options?
Food and beverages will be available for purchase from downtown merchants and visiting vendors. Personal food and beverages are also allowed. The consumption of alcohol is not permitted.
Are There Other Things to Do?
Yes! There will be many vendors, a kid’s game zone, a car show, costume contest and entertainment between Lotería rounds. The monthly Farmers Market is also nearby at the Maggie Salinas Pavilion.
What is the Costume Contest?
Attendees are encouraged to dress like their favorite Lotería card character. There are two divisions, Kids (0-12) and Adults (13+). First and second place winners are determined by audience response.
How Can I Participate in the Costume Contest?
All Lotería attendees are welcome to participate!
What Time do Games Start?
There are three rounds of games that start at different times throughout the day:

Round one 11:00 a.m.

How Many Games are Played Each Round?
There are 10 games in each round.
Do I Have to Buy New Cards for Each Session?
Yes. Each session requires new cards. Cards are color-coded for a specific round. Cards for later rounds are only sold after the previous session has ended.
Will Card Markers be Provided?
Yes, markers will be provided but you are also welcome to bring your own.
​What if There is More Than One Lotería (Bingo) at Once?
In case of a two-way tie, each winner will choose a number between 1-20. The closest to the actual number wins. Both winners will receive a prize. If there are more than two winners, only the top two receive a prize.
​What Types of Prizes Can be Won?
Typical prizes include gift cards to local restaurants, retail items from local businesses, plants and gardening items, bicycles, outdoor items such as coolers and chairs, and occasional larger items such as TVs, smart watches, and event tickets. No cash prizes are awarded.
